Audition & Membership
Interested in joining us? We invite you to audition for I Cantori di Carmel!
Our chorus offers dedicated singers the opportunity to explore and perform a wide range of choral masterworks spanning different eras and styles. Repertoire includes both a cappella works and large-scale symphonic choral music with orchestra and soloists.
I Cantori di Carmel is a choral ensemble made up of trained volunteer and semi-professional singers from across the greater Monterey Bay area. Our membership is multigenerational, drawing singers with formal musical training as well as those whose experience comes from years of committed ensemble singing. What unites our singers is strong musicianship, curiosity, and a shared commitment to high-level performance.
Under the artistic guidance of Music Director Daniel Henriks, singers work in a focused, thoughtful rehearsal environment that emphasizes musical growth, expressive singing, and a deep engagement with the repertoire. Daniel brings an international performance background as both a conductor and opera singer, and he is committed to cultivating a cohesive ensemble sound while supporting each singer's individual development.
As a member of I Cantori di Carmel, singers have the opportunity to collaborate with professional orchestra players, perform alongside top-tier vocal soloists, and sing in some of the most inspiring venues across the greater Monterey Bay, from historic churches to major concert halls and outdoor stages. These performance opportunities are central to our artistic mission and to the experience we offer our singers.
What We Look For
While a high level of vocal and musical ability is essential, I Cantori di Carmel equally values reliability, preparation, and a thoughtful, professional approach to ensemble work. Previous experience singing in an ensemble is required.
Successful singers come prepared, study repertoire independently, arrive on time, and engage fully in rehearsals. Because of the scale and complexity of our repertoire, consistent participation and strong individual preparation are critical to the success of the ensemble.
